What we offer


Talkthru (formerly known as the Huddersfield Pregnancy Crisis Centre) has been operating in Kirklees since 1999, offering a range of free and confidential counselling and support services.

Pregnancy Choices Support

Unplanned pregnancies happen and may leave both men and women uncertain about their plans for the future. Talkthru offers a safe environment for cl­ients to come and talk about their situation, giving them time and space to work through their feelings. We also provide support and practical information on all their options.

Post-Abortion Support

Few women readily choose to have an abortion. However the position they find themselves in when faced with an unplanned pregnancy may make them feel there is no alternative­. Following a termination, for some the initial relief is replaced with unexpected emotional difficulties.

We provide a stepwise programme, based on cognitive behaviour therapy, which helps women to identify their points of stress and work through them. Many women have already been helped to come to terms with their unresolved issues.

Miscarriage Support

Miscarriage or losing a baby to ectopic pregnancy can leave both women and their partners struggling with feelings and grieving their loss. Talkthru offers a safe environment to help people grieve and work through their feelings.

Baby Loss Support

 When someone goes through the trauma of losing a baby everyone's experience is unique. Here at Talkthru we are able to give clients the time they need to work through their emotions.

Practical Support

 The support we offer includes:

  • Emotional support
  • Free baby clothes and equipment
  • Signposting to appropriate services
We provide good quality used equipment and clothes (from birth to 1 year) free to those in need.		 practical2.jpg

Free and confidential pregnancy tests

Because some of the women who come into the centre are unsure about whether they are pregnant or not, we offer free and confidential pregnancy tests which are carried out right then and there.  

Under 16 Services

We offer a free pregnancy test and confidential counselling services to young people under 16. For more information on our under 16 counselling and free pregnancy test services please call us.  

Schools work ­

We have a variety of lessons on self-esteem, relationships and sex education that we teach in educational establishments. If you are interested in any of these and would like more information please contact us by phone or e-mail. 

Prison visits

One of our advisors provides counselling support for baby loss to women at a local prison as part of the outreach work being done by Talkthru.

 

'We are not able to refer directly for termination. We offer clients information on all the options and are well-resourced to provide both immediate and long term support as necessary, directing to other agencies as appropriate.'
